Therapy is about connection. What makes therapy different than other relationships you may have in your life is that therapy is focused on you, 100% of the time. This dynamic and level of attention is rare, if not impossible, to have with the other people in our life. At Therapy with James, we call dedication to you as being Client Centered.

A Client Centered approach allows for the work that we do in therapy together to be as effective and efficient as possible. I am trained in a multitude of therapeutic disciplines so that I can best meet you where you are at and serve your needs.

The mind-body-spirit connection is what lies at the forefront of the field of psychology and transformation. Through a process of integrating each of these areas, an individual, couple, or family system can reach its maximum health and happiness.

Therapy with James meets your needs using tools and skills that best fit the moment and goals. Being informed in a wide variety of modalities, knowing how to recognize which will serve you best, and being able to move between them is not only a skill, but an art form.

At the core of this art form is what we call being Trauma-Informed. A trauma-informed approach incorporates the 4 R's:

  • Realizing the prevalence of trauma

  • Recognizing how it affects all individuals involved with the program, organization or system, including its own workforce

  • Resisting re-traumatization

  • Responding by putting this knowledge into practice

The principles that rest at the center of a Trauma-Informed System of Care are:

  • Safety – ensuring physical and emotional safety

  • Trustworthiness – maintaining appropriate boundaries and making tasks clear

  • Choice – prioritizing client choice and control (people want choices and options; for people who have had control taken away, having small choices makes a big difference)

  • Collaboration – maximizing collaboration

  • Empowerment – prioritizing client empowerment and skill-building

Being Trauma-Informed is underneath all of the work that we will do together. However, it doesn't stop there. I am trained in taking an integrative approach to therapy and will use tools from a wide breadth of modalities that have been developed over the years. To name a few, this integrative approach will include tools and skills from fields such as Psychodynamics, CBT, DBT, family systems, mindfulness, humanistic, intensive short-term, narrative, solution-focused, emotionally-focused, gestalt, and transpersonal.

Diversity is a core value of our practice and will be present throughout the work that we do together. The round peg doesn't fit into the square hole. At Therapy with James, I am committed to creating a program and a space where you get to be you in your most pure form. I don't make you fit into my system, I fit the system around you.
